FAQS 4

How does FDMA work?

In FDMA, the available satellite bandwidth is divided into portions of non-overlapping frequency slots which are assigned exclusively to individual earth stations. A basic diagram of an FDMA satellite system is shown in Fig. Examples of this technique are FDM/FM/FDMA used in INTELSAT II & III and SCPC satellite systems.

How FDMA is used to provide multiple access?

The FDMA is the simplest scheme used to provide multiple access. It separates different users by assigning a different carrier frequency (see Figure 6.2). Multiple users are isolated using bandpass filters. In FDMA, signals from various users are assigned different frequencies, just as in an analog system.

What is an example of FDMA?

Examples of this technique are FDM/FM/FDMA used in INTELSAT II & III and SCPC satellite systems. Also, SPACE (signal-channel-per-carrier PCM multiple access demand assignment equipment) used in INTELSAT IV in which channels are assigned on demand to earth stations is considered as a FDMA system.

What is the relationship between single carrier FDMA and OFDMA?

The relationship between single carrier-FDMA and OFDMA for the transmission of a signal occupying the overall bandwidth [3,4]. There is a similarity between OFDMA and SC-FDMA for the transmission of independent signals from various termi-nals to one base station. Figure 1 show that OFDMA and
